A little means a lot!

It's probably hard to believe that the impact on the   environment be so unsettling when you throw away something so small as an inkjet cartridge or laser cartridge. Nonetheless, to make the picture perfectly clear, we have researched some staggering environmental statistics. As you will undoubtedly recognize, the problem is real,the problem is here, and the problem can be solved.

1. Two and a half ounces of oil are used for every inkjet cartridge produced!

2. Three and a half quarts of oil are used for every laser cartridge produced!

3. Half a gallon of oil is conserved for every laser cartridge refilled. With the United States consuming approximately 700 million gallons of oil a day, you're helping to conserve a valuable natural resource by recycling and purchasing refilled inkjet and laser cartridges.

5. Stacked end to end, the cartridges thrown away in one year would cover a distance of more than 24,000 miles. Long enough to circle the earth!

6. In the next seven years, if all the laser and inkjet cartridges were saved from landfills, a bridge could be built from the Earth to the Moon, a distance of 223,000 miles!

What does this have to do with me?

If you are one of the more than 54 million households with a personal computer, you probably use a laser or inkjet printer for your printing needs. The average consumer uses 2-6 printer cartridges each year and 85% of those purchased are simply tossed in the trash once depleted. This equates to more than 3 million cartridges a day! Recovering these printer cartridges for recycling would prevent more than 570,000 tons of plastics and oil from entering our waste stream. Plastics that take more than 1,000 years to decompose, and oil based material over 35 million years to degrade. Even more staggering than the prevention of unnecessary waste is the amount of oil that could be conserved through the refilling of inkjet and laser cartridges more than 683 million gallons of oil every single year.
